School's out!

Mon May 4, 2009, 5:30 AM
I haven't had classes for almost a week, actually. Now I'm just looking to get a job and readjusting to not having a bunch of things scheduled. This summer I really want to take the time to improve my photography. I've had difficulty finding interesting subjects or, perhaps, making stuff interesting. My photos seem to lack creativeness and punch, and I haven't really got messages with "oomph!" in them either. The latter is something I really want to aim for. Photos with a purpose beyond looking cool and being technically excellent, though that's definitely something I need to improve on too. I think I may need to read a book about it. Perhaps a new lens? Would it open up a world of new possibilities? I tend to mostly keep my handy 17-85 on and doubt it's general usefulness can be usurped. Then again, a generally applicable lens is good for generally good photos. So an extra special lens for extra special photos? :P

Lord, help me grow in this too.

And we're officially back!

Mon May 26, 2008, 12:07 PM
To be quite honest, I've been back, that is out of the army, for several months now. Just haven't gotten around here that much. But now that my entrance exams to study translation and interpreting draw near, or rather, as the books I'm required to study become duller, I'm finally finding time to shoot :)

This spring I've been getting into vectors and street photography. So far I've noticed that Inkscape has a confusing interface and that a dslr with a zoom lens has apparent disadvantages when approaching people within 30 feet. On the other hand, perhaps I should want them to look at me. At least as long as it's not an angry bricklayer poised to throw me with one. Then again, that would also make for a good shot!

Sorry to anyone that might be looking in here. I've been in compulsory military service for 2 months now, and have another 4 ahead of me. I didn't think my time on dA would be so hindered, but as it is I don't think I'll be updating before January 4th, when I get out.

So uh, I haven't been updating much. I went traveling, got back, graduated, and time's still slipping away. And in a week I'll be stepping into armed service, how's that for an easy summer?

Happenings

So I got a new lens. I wasn't going to, really, not for a while, at least not before my trip to eastern Europe this spring, and even then I was looking at the 28-135mm. But I got a good deal on a fresh EF-S 17-85mm and had to take it : D
Indeed, I'm pretty excited about it, first shots with it are forthcoming.

Even with out the new lens, the new year's been excellent. Haven't been home much and it's been very cloudy for outdoor photography, but plenty of good times have been had. Can't wait for school to end so I can get on the road.
